Services at St Michaels

At St Michael's we try to offer a variety of services to suit as many people as possible in their journey of faith.

10:30 Sunday Mornings

We encourage most people to come to the main 10:30 Sunday service, but realise that this may not be everyone's favourite style of worship.

In this service, there is children's and youth work, led by our Children's and Youth Minister, Sharon; music, in a variety of styles; Bible readings, sermons expounding the Word of God; and prayer time.  We share Holy Communion on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month, (where we use gluten free bread, there are egg free wafers available, alcoholic and non-alcoholic wine); during these communion services we offer prayer ministry in the Lady Chapel which is available for anyone.

On the 1st Sunday of the month we have an All-Age service where all children and youth remain in the main body of the church throughout the whole service, the service is family friendly with carefully selected liturgy and music, and we try to ensure the sermon is very inclusive of all ages.  Our regular BEEs and EPIC children and youth help to lead the readings and prayer time.

On the 3rd and 5th Sundays we have family worship services.  These services are slightly less formal than a communion service, but still include liturgy, music, readings, prayers and a sermon.

8:30 Sunday Mornings

We also offer an 8:30 service every Sunday, these services don't include music as a rule. They tend to follow the pattern of 1st, 2nd & 3rd Sunday; Holy Communion, 4th Sunday Morning Prayer. These services are quieter and are held in the intimate setting of the Lady Chapel.

5:00pm Sunday Evenings

We also hold evening services.  On the 1st Sunday of the month there is Evensong at 5pm, a traditional service with psalms, hymns and canticles.

We also have a more informal service, on the 3rd Sunday of the month. This varies in style, and is usually held in the round in the chancel (up on the step) at the front of the church.

This service sometimes doesn't take place if, for example, there are other Sunday evening services in the month, such as Remembrance Service, Advent Service of Light or Easter.
